The environmental community project, Y Dref Werdd, secured £250 funding from the Welsh Water Community Fund. Based in the Vale of Ffestiniog, the group works hard to benefit the local environment and community.
The group was recently formed and decided to improve their well-being and improve their local community by getting out into the outdoors to make a difference. The group formed the green prescription project, Dod yn ôl at dy Goed. The donation helped to buy equipment resulting in outdoor activities such as orienteering, whittling, music making, foraging, outdoor cooking, and natural art. This then encouraged the local community to meet outdoors, share stories and skills around a cup of tea or coffee whilst participating in activities.
Non Roberts, Co-ordinator at Y Dref Werdd said: "After the struggles we all faced during lockdowns and restrictions in 2020/21, establishing and running our green prescription project ‘Dod yn ôl at dy Goed’ has been a breath of fresh air – literally!
"Getting people out into nature and making connections again has been a wonderful experience.
"Thank you to Dwr Cymru for their contribution which has enabled us to warm up with tea and soups made on the fire, and provided us with arts and crafts material to make in the sessions. Diolch yn fawr!"
Claire Roberts, Head of Community Engagement at Welsh Water, said: "The Welsh Water Community Fund is pleased to support the local community of the Vale of Ffestiniog. Getting together when it is safe to do so and being able to enjoy the outdoors has never been so important. As a not-for-profit organisation, customers are at the heart of everything we do, and the funding allows us to give something back to the community that we are investing in."
