Educational visits

We work with schools to encourage children to love and value water. Our activities, led by seconded teachers, equip pupils to become global citizens, with an understanding of sustainability and its impact on the local community. Thousands of pupils visit our Education Centre or receive a visit to their school each year and have a fantastic time - and it’s all FREE!

Our Centre Visits

Come behind the scenes and see how we provide you safe, clean drinking water and how we treat wastewater and keep our rivers and beaches clean.

Our qualified teachers and industry professionals will help you discover your role in sustainable water management and give you tips how to become more water efficient and help the environment.

Please see below for an overview of our usual provision, but note that this may vary due to Covid-19 (Coronavirus) impact. Contact education@dwrcymru.com for more information.

Cilfynydd in the south Wales valleys

Our Discovery centre at Cilfynydd has a fully equipped indoor classroom and exciting outdoor area where visiting schools can take part in hands on activities that include The Water Cycle, water efficiency, climate change, pond dipping, orienteering, mini beasts, river studies and WaterAid role-play lesson.

Also, during your visit you can learn about the sights and smells of the Cynon Waste Treatment Works and discover how waste water is cleaned, treated and returned safely to the environment.

The lessons are delivered by a qualified teacher and all activities are linked to the National curriculum. All visits are FREE OF CHARGE so book today to enjoy a learning experience whilst having fun!

Our School Visits

Our award winning education team will visit your school or college to give an assembly where we teach children about all things to do with water! How we collect it, treat it, use it and clean it.

Our interactive workshops are led by seconded teachers who educate children through the most creative lessons and equip children to become water ambassadors, with an understanding climate change, community and Welsh Water’s business messages.

Our lessons such as our network challenge where the challenge was to create and plan a model water network to supply water to a village within a certain budget give children the opportunity to understand how a water company operates and how much effort goes into every drop.

You know what else is awesome, it could help your school achieve Eco-School status. Our only requirement is that you allow us to deliver an assembly to your whole school and run a water-saving planning session afterwards.
