Welsh Water to invest £3.4 million to boost Aberystwyth’s water network using innovative technology
24 March 2022
Dwr Cymru Welsh Water’s £3.4 million investment to upgrade the water network in Aberystwyth is making great progress and is on track to be completed by July 2022.
The investment by the not-for-profit company will see improvements carried out to the water network, to help continue providing homes, schools, businesses and customers with a safe, reliable supply of clean drinking water for decades to come.
The work has already seen an investment of £1.6 million made at the Cefn Llan Water Treatment Works with a further £1.8 million upgrade set to be carried out in the area.
Working with our contract partners, Morrisons Utilities, Welsh Water is set to replace 353 metres of water mains and cleanse another 26km. That is the equivalent to the length of almost 250 football pitches!
Furthermore, the water company will be using an innovative technology during certain parts of the project to replace and cleanse sections of the water main without having to dig up sections of the road. This technique will help minimise disruption and allow the utility company to complete the work much quicker when compared to more traditional methods.
Welsh Water’s Project Manager, Jonathan Davies, said: "Our work in Aberystwyth has been progressing well since February.
"We’ve been working hard to keep disruption to a minimum and provide the best results for our customers.
"We appreciate that this kind of work can cause some inconvenience, but we will do all we can to keep this to a minimum and would like to thank people for bearing with us whilst we undertake these essential works."
This project formed part of the multi-million-pound investment made by the not-for-profit company to improve services to customers and help protect the environment. Between 2020 and 2025, the company is set to invest a further £1.8 billion across the country.
