£500 funding secured for The Cold Knap Lifeguard Club’s building makeover

21 February 2022

Dwr Cymru Welsh Waters’ Community Fund has awarded £500 to The Cold Knap Lifeguard Club, a voluntary lifeguard club based in Barry.

The club provides training for children, from age 7 lifesaving skills such as first aid or beach and sea safety which allows them to earn their junior lifesaving award.

The donation has helped the club repair and renovate their building in time for their 60-year anniversary. The makeover project has enabled the club to continue providing their services to children benefiting them and the local community.

Michelle Hopkins, member of The Cold Knap Lifeguard club said: ‘We are extremely grateful to the volunteers and Welsh Water’s donation. They have given our club building a much needed make over. It looked dull and run down - but now it looks fresh and ready for our 60th celebrations in 2022. Thank you so very much from us all at the Rhondda Cold Knap Lifeguard Club’

Claire Roberts, Head of Community Engagement at Welsh Water, said: “The Welsh Water Community Fund is pleased to support the local community of Barry. As a not-for-profit organisation, customers are at the heart of everything we do and being able to help groups such as The Cold Knap Lifeguard club means a lot to us. Training our future generation lifesaving skills is something we are really pleased to support.’’
