Dwr Cymru Welsh Water’s Community Fund has awarded £500 to Maes-G Showzone; a community-based art group from Bangor.

As a result of the funding the group were able to purchase essential equipment to enhance performances for their shows giving the young people the opportunity and experience they deserve. The funding was received right in time for their Christmas show “Every Pantomime that ever there was” which featured thirty different characters.

Eirian Williams Roberts, Co-founder at Maes-G Showzone says: “Welsh Water’s amazing grant was put towards the new sound equipment that we were desperate for to run our rehearsals and stage our fantastic Christmas Panto and carol concert.

‘’With this grant we were able to purchase a new sound desk and amplifier, which is more than capable of meeting our needs, new speakers to accompany the new amp and also monitor speakers which have become an essential bit of kit. Monitors are speakers that point towards the children when they perform and sing so they can also hear the music. When you’re on stage with a 30 strong choir all around you it’s virtually impossible to hear the music that you’re actually singing along to unless you have monitors directing that music towards you. There items have been invaluable to us.

‘’Due to the kindness of Welsh Water and others, this equipment purchased will enable ShowZone to continue the work it does with its members, children who without ShowZone would have no access to the arts due to their circumstances.”

The company’s Community Fund is a chance for communities to boost fundraising efforts for good causes in their area. If you live in an area where work is taking place – and you’re fundraising for projects to benefit the community – you could receive funding from Welsh Water up to a value of £1,000.

Claire Roberts, Head of Community Engagement at Welsh Water, said: “The Welsh Water Community Fund is pleased to support a diverse range of community-based projects throughout the company’s operational area. As a not for profit organisation, customers are at the heart of everything we do, and the funding allows us to give something back to the communities we are investing in. It is lovely to see how this funding has supported young people to express themselves through singing and performing and sharing their experience in the local community ”
