Welsh Water awards £60,000 to over 150 local community charities and projects during 2021

As an essential service provider and a responsible business, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water is committed to giving back to local communities. Over 150 charities and organisations from all around Wales and Herefordshire have secured funding from the not-for-profit company’s Community Fund.
Many biodiversity and community projects benefited from funding thanks to the community-based initiative. The funding awarded has helped schools develop outdoor learning areas, local football and rugby teams to buy new equipment encouraging more members to take part in sporting activities, enhanced community gardens, purchase volunteer equipment to allow litter picking, support Scouts Groups and many others. Overall, over £60,000 has been awarded towards these exciting projects since January 2021.
Tim Banks, Committee Member at Danescourt Football Club, said: “We are massively grateful to Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water for their very generous grant. The grant has been vital in allowing us to upgrade and buy additional kit and equipment, and in ensuring the we can provide a safe, stimulating, and enjoyable environment as we continue to grow.”
Byron Young, Secretary at Cor Meibion Morlais, said: “The money received from Dŵr Cymru’s Communtity Fund will help with maintaining the hall and replacing chairs. With the new chairs, the choir will be able to provide seating for the community to enjoy regular concerts.”
Ian Chriswick, Assistant Headteacher at Ysgol Bro Dinefwr said: ‘Thanks to the fund awarded by Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and other organisations we have been able to undertake significant work to build an outdoor learning area to facilitate the new Curriculum for Wales. We’d like to thank Welsh Water for helping us getting one step closer to our goal!’
