With Christmas just around the corner, a Rhymney Valley foodbank has been given an extra boost thanks to contributions from Welsh Water and its partner company.

As part of Welsh Water’s work to upgrade the water pipes within the Rhymney Valley, the company and its contractor partner Lewis Civil Engineering have teamed up to donate £1,000 to the Rhymney Valley Food Bank to help low income families this Christmas. This is in addition to the £6,000 that has already been given to community groups in the Rhymney Valley to help support a wide range of amazing projects that are being delivered in this area.

The company and its partner, who are carrying out the £10 million investment project To improve the water system in the area – were keen to give something back to the community while they are working there.

Chris Moore, Programme delivery Manager at Welsh Water, said: "At Welsh Water, our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and whenever we plan to carry out investment work we want to ensure that we leave them in a better place. This year has been yet another difficult year for many families and the need for food supplies in parts of the Rhymney Valley is greater than ever. By being able to work with our contractors, Lewis Civil Engineering, we have been able to donate a substantial amount of money that will make a real difference to many families this Christmas."

Curtis Hughes, Senior Site Manager at Lewis Civil Engineering, said: "The money and parcels we donated in 2020 really made a difference to families and individuals who needed support at the time. We are pleased that we have been able to give something back to the community again this year and help provide essential items to families in the Rhymney Valley over the Christmas period."

Steve Jones who is the Foodbank Operations Manager was delighted with the donation and explained how ‘for a second year running, the pandemic has meant that our volunteers have been working tirelessly to ensure that we are able to continue our emergency food provision in a time of great need in our community. The donations received from those such as Welsh Water and Lewis Civil Engineering have helped ensure that we have the food and resources necessary to continue our support into 2022."
