Welsh Water has awarded £1500 to five community groups within the Herefordshire area through its Community Fund. This forms part of the not-for-profit’s £10 million investment to upgrade the water pipes between Bewdley Bank Reservoir and the outskirts of Hereford City.
One of those successful applicants is Herefordshire Board Gamers, a Herefordshire based fundraising and community group who provide family fun gaming for people of all ages. Throughout lockdown they have been meeting online, but they have also been exploring new ways of bringing games into people's homes to provide fun and entertainment during this difficult time.
Adam Best, founder of the Herefordshire Board Gamers, said: “The grant has been of great use and we've lent out games to a number of homes and families that are currently in lockdown or isolation, providing hours of fun.”
The company’s Community Fund is an opportunity for communities to boost fundraising efforts for good causes in their area. If you live in an area where work is taking place – and you’re fundraising for projects to benefit the community – you could receive funding from Welsh Water up to £1,000.
Claire Roberts, Head of Community Engagement at Welsh Water, said: “The Welsh Water Community Fund is pleased to support a diverse range of community-based projects throughout the Herefordshire area. As a not for profit organisation, customers are at the heart of everything we do, and the funding allows us to give something back to the communities we are investing in.”
Other community groups which successfully secured funding from the company’s Community Fund include Holmer Church of England Academy, Hereford Yoga Community Interest Company, The Growing Local Community Interest Company and New Leaf Sustainable Development.
