Welsh Water’s £1.8 million upgrade to the wastewater system in Penperlleni is set to begin in April. The work will help to protect properties in the area from flooding during times of heavy rainfall.
The company plans to install around a kilometre of brand new pipe along Newtown Road, Church Road and Longhouse Barn as well as a short section of pipe which will be installed in private land adjacent to Church Road. The not for profit water company plans to greatly improve the way the wastewater system works in the area works by increasing capacity in the network. The work also involves installing a new storage tank in private land which will help to provide environmental benefits to the area for years to come.
It is anticipated that the work will be completed towards the end of November.
Work has already been undertaken to remove some trees to clear a path through private land for a section of the pipe. This work was closely monitored by an ecologist to ensure minimal impact on the local environment and was timed to be carried out outside of the bird nesting season. The company will continue to closely monitor the situation after the work to lay the new pipes begins, to safeguard local wildlife and the environment throughout the project.

“In order for us to protect the safety of the public, motorists and our workforce, we will need to have some road closures in place when we carry out the work on Newtown Road and Church Road. Dates for these closures have been agreed with the local authority and communicated with local residents and businesses. Diversionary routes will be clearly signposted for the duration of the work. We’ll keep local residents updated on our progress along the way.
