Cardiff Llanishen and surrounding areas
We’re investing £7.8 million to improve the water network in Llanishen and the surrounding areas of Cardiff. This will help continue to provide our customers in the area with a safe, reliable supply of clean drinking water for decades to come.
The work will help to ensure security of supply to our customers and to alleviate issues with loss of supply or low water pressure currently experienced by some customers in the area.
What does this work involve?
Some of our pipes that provide customers with their morning shower and cups of tea are over 100 years old. Over time natural deposits can build up inside the pipes and slow the flow of the water. While these deposits are not harmful, every now and then we need to clear the pipes to keep the water running freely.
With some parts of the network nearing the end of its operational life, the investment in this area will see us replace 3.7 km of pipework.
Where will the work take place?
The work will begin in early September 2023 and we expect to be completed by October 2024.
You can see where we’ll be working below:
If we do need to work outside of your property, we’ll be sure to contact you directly closer to the time and will be updating the ‘In Your Area’ section of our website with any specific traffic management plans.
We’ll have a compound and welfare unit situated opposite Peppermint Park for the duration of the work.

This is quite normal. Discoloured water is unlikely to be harmful to health but we wouldn’t expect anyone to drink it when it looks unpleasant. It usually clears fairly quickly after a few minutes of flushing your taps through, but it may take around 45 minutes of running the tap before it clears.
If you are concerned and the discolouration hasn’t cleared, please contact us.
Avoid washing clothes until the water is turned back on and clear. If you have washed clothes and the discoloured water has stained your washing, please re-wash when the supply has cleared.
