Clear Streams Swansea Project

The key aim of Clear Streams is to promote a healthier and cleaner aquatic environment for the benefit of people, communities and wildlife, now and in the future.

Whilst the water quality and general health of rivers and waterbodies in Swansea is improving, several continue to be polluted and are failing the WFD ‘good’ status.

Dŵr Cymru awarded funding towards the Clear Streams Swansea project to reduce surface water entering the sewerage network, and to change attitudes and behaviours towards the water environment. The project covers engagement with both domestic and business communities.

The primary methods of reducing water entering the sewerage network are through the installation of water butts and ponds, both of which are proving very popular with the local community. Businesses near failing water bodies are also being contacted in order to initiate dialogue on how they can practice good water management.
