Rhyl FC Girls reach their Goal!

2 March 2021

The new Rhyl girls football team have reached their goal thanks to funding from Welsh Water.

Newly formed Clwb Pêl Droed (CPD) Y Rhyl 1879 under 8s and under 10 girls’ teams were able to purchase new equipment for training following a donation from the not-for-profit utility company’s Community Fund.

The teams received £500 from the fund to buy goals, cones and other training equipment to help the girls improve their fitness and footballing skills. As well as building on skills, the club also aims to ensure the girls have fun during their training sessions as well as build on their social and mental health wellbeing which are associated with being part of a team and exercising outdoors.

Tom Jamieson Chairman CPD Y Rhyl 1879 said, “The funding was much welcomed by our new Club CPD Y Rhyl 1879 Girls as it enabled us to purchase various equipment including a new set of goals, slalom poles and cones for our coaches to enhance and deliver inspiring varied training sessions with our newly setup Under 8’s and Under 10 s girls teams. It’s really fantastic that Welsh Water’s Community Fund has supported our club during these difficult times.”

Claire Roberts Head of Community Engagement at Welsh Water said, “As a not-for-profit company, our customers are at the heart of everything we do. Our aim through our Community Fund is to give something back to the communities we work in. It’s great that we can support Rhyl Football club with their new girls team so that when restrictions are lifted that the girls can restart their training sessions and enjoy using their new equipment.”

Welsh Water’s Community Fund provides funding of up to £1,000 to support local groups for the benefit of their communities. During the last 6 months, the Fund has supported 56 groups by donating over £24,000 to local communities. For more information about the fund and to apply please visit here.
