New Leaf Sustainable Development secures Welsh Water Community Funding

25 February 2021

Welsh Water have awarded £1500 to five community groups within the Herefordshire area through its Community Fund. This forms part of the not-for-profit’s £10 million investment to upgrade the water pipes between Bewdley Bank Reservoir and the outskirts of Hereford City.

One of those successful applicants is New Leaf Sustainable Development, a Herefordshire based organisation which aims to promote sustainable development in Herefordshire and beyond. The organisation applied for funding to support the opening of a Sustainability Centre at Queenswood Country Park, which will provide educational sessions about how to live more sustainably and provide a hub where people can meet, access information and gain valuable knowledge that they can share within their community.

Wendy Ogden, an Associate of New Leaf Sustainable Development, said:
“Thanks to the Welsh Water Community Fund for their support towards our new Sustainable Future Centre. We are looking forward to when we can open to host events, share information about global, national and local issues along with ideas for positive actions that we can incorporate into our lives.’’

The company’s Community Fund is a chance for communities to boost fundraising efforts for good causes in their area. If you live in an area where work is taking place – and you’re fundraising for projects to benefit the community – you could receive funding from Welsh Water up to a value of £1,000.

Claire Roberts, Head of Community Engagement at Welsh Water, said: “The Welsh Water Community Fund is pleased to support a diverse range of community-based projects throughout the Herefordshire area. As a not for profit organisation, customers are at the heart of everything we do, and the funding allows us to give something back to the communities we are investing in.”

Other community groups which successfully secured funding from the company’s Community Fund include Holmer Church of England Academy, Hereford Yoga Community Interest Company, The Growing Local Community Interest Company and The Hereford Boardgamers.
