Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water has awarded £500 to Danescourt Football Club through its Community Fund for them to buy brand-new kit and equipment for their junior teams This has been awarded as part of the not-for-profits £2 million investment to upgrade the water pipes in the Fairwater and Danescourt area.

The football club supports over 120 children in the local area and is always looking for ways that they can expand the club to support young people within the area. They recently created a brand-new under 18s team – the first in the club’s history – to support those who wanted to pursue playing football and help them through the transition of playing with adult teams.

Tim Banks, Committee Member at Danescourt Football Club, said: “We are massively grateful to Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water for their very generous grant. The last year has made life very difficult to raise income, and at precisely the same time that we have seen a growth in membership. The football club acts as a lifeline and outlet for many of the children to socialise, make friends and have fun, especially during these difficult months. The grant has been vital in allowing us to upgrade and buy additional kit and equipment, and in ensuring the we can provide a safe, stimulating, and enjoyable environment as we continue to grow.”

Welsh Water’s Community Fund is a chance for communities to boost fundraising efforts for good causes in their area. If you live in an area where work is taking place – and you’re fundraising for projects to benefit the community – you could receive funding from Welsh Water up to a value of £1,000. As a not for profit organisation, customers are at the heart of everything we do, and the funding allows us to give something back to the community that we are investing in.”

The company is currently working in the Fairwater and Danescourt areas of Cardiff as part of a £2 million investment project to upgrade the water pipes to ensure customers continue to receive a first-class drinking water supply for decades to come. It is anticipated that this work will be completed by the end of April 2021.
