More Welsh Water staff join in on the fun for Children in Need

With coronavirus putting a stop to large gatherings – indoors and outside – Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water employees have taken fundraising to new virtual heights for Children in Need week.

Staff across the company came together online and took part in six different fundraising events – including a live ‘Dŵr Radio’ show where people could donate money while sharing song requests and take part in an online quiz. Collectively, more than 300 people took part in the online events through the day.

Away from the virtual fundraising, Welsh Water also made a commitment to donate £5 to Children in Need for every picture sent in from front line workers out on the road who got involved in the fun.

In total, Welsh Water colleagues managed to raise £2,300 for Children in Need and to celebrate the fundraising efforts, the company also donated another £2,000, taking total funds raised over £4,300.

Alun Shurmer, Director of Customer Strategy and Communication at Welsh Water said; “This year has been a challenging one for everyone but Children in Need has been a welcome opportunity for everyone to be able to get involved and have some fun while raising money. It’s a fantastic that such a significant amount of money has been raised and will go towards such a great cause”.

Welsh Water is a ‘not-for-profit company’ which has been owned by Glas Cymru since 2001. Welsh Water does not have shareholders, and any financial surpluses are reinvested in the business for the benefit of customers.
