Llwyn-onn Water
Treatment Works

Cwm Taf Water Supply Strategy

Investing in new and resilient water treatment works and associated facilities which will provide our customers with a safe, reliable supply of clean drinking water for decades to come.

In 2024 we held a non-statutory consultation with the local community and stakeholders on our proposals to upgrade the existing Llwyn-onn Water Treatment Works.

Our proposal includes:

  • An upgrade of the existing Llwyn-onn Water Treatment Works replacing or re-using some existing assets.
  • New and improved water treatment processes with additional treatment capacity to supply clean, safe water to our customers.
  • Additional treated water storage capacity to ensure we have a reliable supply of water.
  • New treated water pipelines to carry treated water to the existing network and on to customers.
  • Repurposing of existing pipework and new raw water pipeline to carry water from the existing Cantref reservoir.
  • A sustainable drainage solution to collect surface water and overflows from the new water treatment works site.

This non-statutory consultation has now closed, although the consultation materials outlining our early proposals are still available to view below.

What’s next

We are currently preparing the information for the pre-application consultation, and we’re aiming to hold these consultations Autumn 2025.

Once we have confirmed the dates for the pre-application consultation we will notify the local community and stakeholders, and we will once again welcome your feedback.

We appreciate there will be lots of questions about this project and why we need to do it, should you have any queries then please email us cwmtafproject@dwrcymru.com.
