Climate Change Effects
Climate change means we’ll see heavier rainstorms more often, which can cause more flooding and more rainwater entering our sewers. Summers are expected to be hotter and drier, which could lead to less water available and more people needing it.
That’s why we continue to working hard on several areas of our work — like helping people use less water and fixing leaks, upgrading our wastewater systems to help keep rivers and seas clean, and developing sustainable urban drainage systems to reduce the risk of sewer flooding. And to help fight climate change, we’re cutting carbon emissions too.

At Welsh Water, we are leading the way in developing and using innovative solutions to manage the amount of surface water entering our sewers. This means that, where possible, we catch, redirect and slow down the speed at which surface water enters the sewer network, using a range of solutions.
