Bridgend
We’re investing £6.1 million in the Bridgend county water network. This will help continue to provide our customers in the area with a safe, reliable supply of clean drinking water for decades to come.
The work will help to ensure security of supply to our customers and to alleviate issues with loss of supply or low water pressure currently experienced by some customers in the area.
What does this work involve?
With some parts of the network nearing the end of its operational life, the investment in this area will see around 35km of water mains either replaced or cleansed. That is the equivalent to the length of almost 358 football pitches.
Where will the work take place?
The work which started in May 2020 will take place between throughout parts of Bridgend county and we anticipate the work will be completed by April 2021.
We will keep all residents and businesses updated and do our very best to upgrade the water pipes in your area as smoothly as we can.
Areas that will benefit from the investment will include Maesteg, Pencoed, Sarn and the Garw Valley.
Your water
Throughout most of the work there should be no interruptions to your supply. However, due to the nature of this work, it might be necessary for us to turn off your water supply for a short period of time (up to 3 hours). If we need to do this, we will let you know via a text message on the same day.

Some of our pipes that provide customers with their morning shower and cups of tea are over 100 years old. Over time natural deposits can build up inside the pipes and slow the flow of the water. While these deposits are not harmful, every now and then we need to clear the pipes to keep the water running freely.
Most customers will not be affected by the work and will probably not even notice the work being done and we will write to any customers that may be affected with all the information they will need.

Vulnerable customers or those with additional needs, who are signed up to our Priority Services Register, will be notified of this interruption and provided with bottled water if needed. If you require bottled water, while this work takes place, then we can arrange this for you too.
This is quite normal. Discoloured water is unlikely to be harmful to health but we wouldn’t expect anyone to drink it when it looks unpleasant. It usually clears fairly quickly after a few minutes of flushing your taps through, but it may take around 45 minutes of running the tap before it clears.
If you are concerned and the discolouration hasn’t cleared, please contact us.

Avoid washing clothes until the water is turned back on and clear. If you have washed clothes and the discoloured water has stained your washing, please re-wash when the supply has cleared.
Yes. As long as your water supply isn’t affected then you can use your water as you would normally.
