Russell is CEO of a start-up company developing a technology to use the natural power of algae to remove phosphorus and other pollutants from wastewater.  He is also a portfolio Non-Executive-Director.  He has spent 20 years in the water industry and has been MD of two other water technology companies.  His degree is in chemical process engineering with business management, attaining chartered engineer status in 1987.

Outside of work, he is a keen sailor, and trustee of Age Connects (a charity which seeks to help older people stay independent in their own homes), and a trustee of Challenge Wales (a charity which seeks to give disadvantage young people an exciting outdoor experience as a catalyst to go on to change their lives).
