John is an education consultant. He was chief executive of ColegauCymru representing further education (FE) colleges in Wales for 13 years and interim director of NIACE Cymru, the voice of adult learning in Wales. John has served on the boards of a number of education and arts charities and is currently a governor of Bridgend College and a member of its resources, remuneration and search committees.
He also chairs Addysg Oedolion Cymru/Adult Learning Wales, a further education institution, and is chair of Agored Cymru, the Welsh awarding body. John serves on the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and chairs its Audit and Risk Assurance Committee; is a Board member of the National Academy for Educational Leadership; and is a member of the Independent Wales Pay Review Body which is advising the Minister for Education on the pay of school teachers and leaders. John has served on numerous national education and skills committees and working groups in Wales and the UK, published widely on post-16 education policy and has carried out a number of recent consultancy contracts on governance.
